Ümmühan Keleş, a Turkish woman with a 4-year-old kid, has been sent to prison over her alleged links to Turkey’s Gülen group, which is accused by the Turkish government of masterminding a coup attempt in July 2016.
According to Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, a pro-Kurdish HDP deputy and a human rights activist, Keleş’s four-year old kid, Ayla Nihal, also entered Ankara’s Sincan prison with her mother, bringing the total number of incarcerated kids in Turkey to 864.
“Another 4-year-old kid [was sent] to Sincan prison. Ümmühan Keleş and her daughter. The kid was sent to stay with her mother ahead of Eid al-Adha. She could not even take her toys,” Gergerlioğlu tweeted.

Turkish government survived a coup attempt in 2016 that killed over 240 people and wounded more than a thousand others. the AK Party officials along with Erdoğan pinned the blame on the Gülen group and launched a widespread war on its alleged and real followers.
The group denies any involvement.

In several cases, women were detained in the hospital immediately after the delivery of her baby and before they had a chance to recover. Many women were jailed as they were visiting their imprisoned husbands, leaving the children stranded in the ensuing chaos.
