Turkey’s media watchdog, RTÜK cancelled the broadcasting license of Kanal 35 as its owner was earlier detained by police over his alleged links to the July 15 coup attempt.
Ahmet Küçükbay, the owner of Küçükbay Business Group, was detained by İzmir police on suspicion of financing what the Gulen Movement, on August 8.
RTÜK cancelled the licenses of Kanal 35, an Izmir-based TV station owned by the business group, on August 16.
More than 151 media outlets have been shut down by the government over their links to the movement.
Turkey survived a military coup attempt on July 15 which killed around 240 people and wounded more than a thousand others. Even before the intervention was yet to be rebuffed, the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan along with the government officials accused the faith-based Gülen movement of masterminding the coup without an investigation.
The movement has denied any involvement, condemning the intervention into democratically-elected administration.
