A political scientist from Turkey’s Sakarya University has allegedly been investigated by Turkish authorities over a book he wrote on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in 2017.
According to tweets posted by the academic himself, he was also denied professor emeritus status by the University management most likely due to the investigation carried out against him last year.
Ali Balçı, an International Relations scholar from one of Turkey’s low ranging universities, said in his tweets that academics in Turkey have been kept under great pressure by the incumbent AK Party government.
Sakarya University is known for its support for the Turkish government and President Tayyip Erdogan. Since July 2016, over 30 academics have been fired from the university on terror and coup charges.
