Trustees were appointed to Hizan, Mutki and Yolalan municipalities in the eastern province of Bitlis, on Saturday.

The mayors of the three municipalities were earlier arrested over terrorism charges.

With Turkey stepped up political pressure on Kurdish politicians in recent months, the government arrested more than 64 co-mayors from the pro-Kurdish Democratic Regions Party (DBP) in the past couple of months, seized the administration of 50 municipalities, and jailed a nearly 3,000 DBP members.

Turkey also keeps 12 deputies from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including the party’s co-chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş.
