While thousands of people from various institutions and organizations have been detained/arrested since the failed coup attempt on July 15, the operation towards journalists and media outlets also continue in full career.

Turkish journalists with grey service passports now need to get permission from the Directorate General of Press and Information to leave Turkey, Ekrem Okutan, the vice president of the directorate, announced.

Releasing a statement by on 11 Aug, Okutan said that according to a recent decision by the Turkish gov’t, Turkish journalists with grey passport are no longer allowed to leave Turkey unless they are given official permission by the Directorate General of Press and Information.

“Our friends (journalists) must get this permission in order to avoid any trouble at the border gates,” Okutan stated.
