Another local mayor on Friday banned a Turkish movie directed by Mahsun Kırmızıgül, claiming that the comedy runs against the national and spiritual values of Turkey.

The mayor of the Sandıklı district of Afyon province, Mustafa Çöl from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), followed suit after another local district mayor, Mehmet Türe of Anamur from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), banned the screening of the movie “Vezir Parmağı” (The Finger of the Vizier), which was set in Ottoman times, on the same grounds.

Both mayors frowned on the fictional production for mocking their ancestor, the Ottoman Empire.

Mahsun Kırmızıgül, a former Kurdish folk singer, made a statement in a video message and called the allegations of insulting “national and spiritual values” slander.
