A medical doctor who says in a leaked video that number of corona cases jumps to thousands in Turkey, was detained by police for spreading false information, Turkish media reported.
Turkish authorities have announced the second death caused by the novel coronavirus, while the number of confirmed cases had increased to 191 as of Wednesday.
A leaked video went viral late on Wednesday showing a medical doctor named Güle Çınar claiming the number of people infected with COVID-19 in Turkey was now “around thousands.”
Hours after the video was retweeted by hundreds of anxious Twitter users, Çınar was detained by police and reportedly forced to apologise via a written statement.
Her written statement was released through Ankara Univerity’s official Twitter account.
“I offer everyone my apologies for the anxiety caused by my speech. […] My intention was to highight the seriousness of the situation,” Çınar said.
