Security personnel at one of the campuses of Kocaeli University has intervened in a group of new graduates who was posing with a banner that questions the authenticity of the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s diploma.

The allegation that Erdoğan do not possess a university degree have long been discussed in Turkey. Opposition has been claiming that Erdoğan does not have a four-year degree but rather a three-year certificate, which does not qualify him to be president.

Some also claim that the copy of a diploma, widely circulated as Erdogan’s, is missing the serial number on the back, raising suspicion over forgery.

“Will the diplomas without seals be considered valid?” Kocaeli University students said in a banner, prepared as part of graduation ceremonies. Only a few minutes after the students posed with the banner, security personnel dropped by and seized the banner.
