Two couples were detained following police raids at two apartments in Samsun’s Atakum, on Tuesday.

S.T. and his wife A.T. were apprehended along with I.C. and his wife Y.C. as part of an investigation against the Gulen movement followers.

The couples are accused of having used ByLock, a messaging app that the government sees as a proof of links to the movement. Evidence against the suspects also include the bank accounts they had in Bank Asya, another evidence that government often uses to establish ties to the group.

Turkish government accuses Gulenists of masterminding the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the group denies involvement. More than 220,000 people have been detained and 90,000 were remanded in pre-trial detention since the summer of 2016.
