Journalist Cem Kucuk, a staunch supporter of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has called on the government to close down the critical TV channel, KRT.
“[Foreigners] in YPG ranks in Afrin fire their guns against Turkish troops. And then, this KRT TV channel host Caglar Dilara gets on his program [pro-Kurdish HDP deputy] Garo Paylan and others to swear the government. This cannot be explained with freedom of thought. If you enable people to swear Turkish military, I call on authorities to…They told me about this in the first place anyway. KRT TV is likely to be closed [with the upcoming decree] …” Kucuk told his fellow colleague Fuat Ugur during a program on TGRT.
On Jan 22, Turkish troops entered Afrin area, which is controlled by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) extension PYD. While most political parties in Turkey welcomed the offensive, police have detained, among others, many journalists for criticizing the operation since then.
