We are a small group of young journalists who are trying to be the voice for Turkish people who suffer under an oppressive regime.

We all have personal stories that made us start this website. Family members of some of us are imprisoned. Some of us have close friends who are currently being tortured in jail. Some of us were personally purged by the government in the massive crackdown.

Couple of us have already been living outside of Turkey, some have just barely managed to flee the country.

This is us… A group of young journalists who already has what is needed to start this website; journalism skills, a fifty-dollar template and the will to fight against oppression.

We chose not to disclose our names for obvious reasons. Yes, maybe we are not concerned about our lives but each one of us still have families. In Turkey, when the government cannot detain a journalist, outspoken critic, or anybody who he deems disloyal, nobody knows whom will be detained to force him/her to surrender: Parents, siblings, children…

Stories you read on this website are genuine. Each single tip we receive goes through a thorough verification process. We only publish those we can successfully authenticate. Stories we do not publish due to the lack of credible verification are way more than the ones we publish here.

Journalism is not a crime. Never has been, never will be.

Our Methodology

The purge in Turkey is a campaign of political repression by Turkey’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) government and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the aftermath of a failed military coup on July 15. The campaign involves a large-scale purge of officials from within the state bureaucracy, the suppression of thousands of civilians for alleged or real links to US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gülen, who the Turkish government accuses of masterminding the failed coup – and extensive police surveillance, imprisonment and widespread allegations of torture and unrecorded deaths in Turkish prisons.

www.turkeypurge.com is a website that was established with the aim of tracking the extensive witch-hunt in Turkey.

On our home page we keep a daily account of academics, military officers, police officers, teachers, government officials and bureaucrats who have been dismissed from their jobs as part of the ongoing purge.

We base our calculations on the following sources:

In the same section we also keep track of people who have been arrested/detained since July 15. Here are our sources:

2- State-run Anadolu news agency: http://aa.com.tr/tr/search/?s=fet%C3%B6

On this page we also keep track of associations, foundations, schools, dormitories and universities shut down by the government since July 15. Our source:
