A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck the Mediterranean Sea near Türkiye’s resort city of Antalya on Wednesday, rattling buildings and causing concern throughout the region.
According to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake occurred at 12:31 p.m. local time.
The epicenter was located offshore, but tremors were felt across Antalya province and in the Anamur district of neighboring Mersin.
The earthquake was also felt across the island of Cyprus, according to reports.
Greek Cypriot media stated that the epicenter was about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) from Paphos and occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers.
The tremor lasted around 15 seconds and was experienced across the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), especially in Nicosia, the capital.
A second earthquake, measuring 4.8, struck the region 10 minutes later at a depth of 14 kilometers.
Officials from the TRNC Civil Defense Organization confirmed that while the quake was felt across the country, no issues were reported.
