Firdevs Pekgüzel, the wife of the former prosecutor Mehmet Ali Pekgüzel who was jailed as part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s post-coup crackdown, passed away following a traffic accident, according to sources.

“People are dying on the way to visit their spouses in prison,” opposition deputy Omer Faruk Gergerlioglu tweeted Monday.

“Firdevs Pekgüzel died as a result of a traffic accident she had while on way to visit her jailed husband in Ankara,” Gergerlioglu added.

Mehmet Ali Pekguzel was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on accusation of membership to the Gulen movement, last week.

Turkish government accuses Gulenists of masterminding the July 15, 2016 failed coup while the latter denies involvement.
