A prisoner who was serving a life sentence in  Ankara’s notorious Sincan prison “committed suicide” on Tuesday morning, according to Turkish authorities.

Ayşe Koç, a member of the Maoist Communist Party People’s Liberation Army (MKP-HKO), was arrested by Turkish authorities after she was captured by police in 2012 in Dersim province. She was later given a life sentence on terror charges.

She was in jail since 2012 and “was not expecting to get out of prison alive,” according to her brother.

Ayşe was laid to rest on Wednesday in İstanbul.
