A handcuffed purge-victim teacher buried his 16-year-old son on Sunday in an emotional chapter of a controversy that has gripped the country and spurred accusations of double standards against post-coup arrestees in Turkey.

Purge-victim teacher, Nureddin Odabaşı has been in prison for over four years over alleged Gulen links, which the government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. His son, Bahadır Odabaşı, committed suicide on Friday reportedly due to overwhelming hopelessness and frustration over his father’s long-lasting imprisonment on trumped up charges.

In a leaked video from the funeral, the purge-victim man is heard crying out loud in a heavy police presence.

Following the coup attempt, the Turkish government launched a massive crackdown on the real and alleged followers of the Gulen group under the pretext of an anti-coup fight as a result of which more than 150,000 people were removed from state jobs while in excess of 90,000 others were jailed and some 600,000 people have been investigated on allegations of terrorism.
