At total of 27,092 Turkish citizens sought asylum in Germany in the past three years, according to Deutsche Welle (DW).

DW reported Monday that Germany has received a total of 27,092 asylum applications from Turkish nationals since 2016, a year that Turkey survived a military coup which was followed by a massive government crackdown on opposition.

5,742 Turkish citizens sought asylum in Germany in 2016 while the corresponding number rose to 8,482 in 2017; and further to 10,655 in 2018.

Another 2,212 people hailing from Turkey became refugee claimants in Germany between January and March, this year.
