Sevgi Balci, an Isparta-based mother of three and a 37-year old nurse who was dismissed from her position as part of the government’s post-coup crackdown, committed suicide on Aug 15.

According to a local news outlet, Balci hanged herself at her home in Çünür neighborhood in Isparta. S.B.’s neighbors, failed to hear from her for a while, called the police who later broke into her house and found out that she had hanged herself.

S.B. was taken to the hospital while where she was reported to have passed away.

An anonymous tip submitted on Aug 17 to @magdurmesajiTr, a Twitter account known for awareness postings regarding the post-coup rights violations, Balci and her husband I.B. were dismissed from their jobs as a nurse and a hospital worker, respectively.

“She has been psychologically depressed for some time and she tried to commit suicide earlier too. …She is now under intensive care at a hospital,” the tip said.

More than 145,000 people have lost their jobs as a result of the government’s post-coup crackdown since the July 15, 2016 coup attempt in Turkey.
