Elif Çelik Demir, a 42-year-old kindergarten teacher, was sent to prison after her six year, three month sentence was upheld by a regional appeals court, the Bold news website reported on Wednesday.
Demir was sent to Ereğli prison.
She was charged with membership to the Gulen group, which the Turkish government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016. The group denies any involvement.
The purge-vicrim woman was initially fired from her job by a gov’t decree issued in the aftermath of the failed coup. She was later tried and sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison on terror charges. A regional appeals court upheld the prison sentence yesterday.
Demir has three kids, aged 3, 8, 12.
